Hong Kong Ocean Park part 1

The second day after the handover we were planning to go for Macau. However, it was raining extensively with storm warning so instead we went for the Ocean Park in Aberdeen. This was a very good decision, the theme park is considered one of the best theme parks in the world according to some magazine. And we could definitely agree to that.

Since the theme park is built in Hong Kong, it is built on all the hills around it. This gives long distances between the different attractions so there is a large cable car connecting the main entrance with the highland park.

At first we passed the Goldfish pavilion in the lowlands. Here they had a model man demonstrating something (in Cantonese). Looked very realistic!

Dinosaur park

There was also a small dinosaur area. Here the nice reptiles look at you by the entrance.

Here is an overview where they breed and place their eggs.

One really hungry reptile!

On the menu: One tourist who didn't make it. Compare this with the Mengwi Lizard park on Bali.

OK, now we decided to go up to the highlands. The view from the cable car is astonishing!

A small view over the other cable cars.

Ocean theater show with Dolphins and sea lions

They had scheduled show similar to what they have in Sea World, San Diego California. Here they had dolphins (check out the live ones outside Kalibukbuk at Bali!)

Here is an overview of the theater. Most of the presentations where only held in Cantonese, although some parts where held in English. The show consisted of Dolphins and a killer whale.

Here we see the bigger killer whale swimming around. Dolphins are having a break.

The killer whale jumping as high as it can.

A view from the top over Aberdeen harbor.

German Umpa Umpa orchestra! But the musicians where Americans and Chinese, I couldn't see any German members of the band.

River rafting in the park

We decided to go for one of the main amusement attractions, the flum ride (I forgot the name of it). It was a relatively short ride, but quite fun. You didn't get as wet as I expected us to do.

Lennart after the ride.
