Dolphin tour at Lovina Beach, Kulibukbuk Bali 1997

These are a bunch of photos from the Dolphin tour we did out from Aneka hotel at Lovina.

Sunrise photos

First of all, check out the wonderful moon.

Now, just before the sunrise...

Only minutes to go....

Here I come!

Even more... Now we are further out and have already watched a bunch of dolphins - probably more than 100!

Time for another day.

Dolphins

So, time for the dolphins... OK, the first thing: According to the tour - "don't forget your camera". Well, with my digital camera I thought I was going to get a good bunch of good snapshots. So I took more than ever and only 2 turned out OK, the ones shown below. The dolphins are jumping for only a second at a time, at a random location. Tracing them with the camera isn't easy.

One just going down...

Here's a reasonably good one.

That's all folks from the dolphin tour. The tour was a lot nicer than you saw, it was definitely a good experience. The tour cost $8 USD at the Aneka hotel, you could also get it for IDR 12 000 from the irritating sales guys on the beach. You will get the same tour, so don't worry. But since we do not like to encourage the beach selling we decided to buy the tour from the hotel. And, they forgot to charge us so we didn't pay anything at all for it. Maybe this was a small compensation since they didn't have any Balinese dancing the evening before, as they had promised.

A valid comment I received from Aileen, ail2leger@aol.com: "Interested in your comments in Kalibukbuk dolphin trip. Having lived there for some time I can tell you that actually the hotels use the same fishermen/boat guides that try to sell you directly the trip on the beach. But the hotels take a big commission and give the fishermen only a little. So it's actually better to help the small business-man, ie. the fisherman/sales man on the beach who need this income as there is little employment in the area and they don't have too many job opportunities, annoying though the selling on the beach can be sometimes ! Some of the big hotels in the area are owned by people not from the area and are very rich and don't need the 10,000 rupiah. So maybe you can spread the word about this !!"

Here all the tour boats are out by the dolphin.
